I'm so glad we did not get any big snowstorm on Saturday and were able to spend the day cropping!

Earlier this month Alicia made her confirmation and when I looked at the photos we took, I knew exactly how I wanted to make the Thank you notes. We had an individual picture of her and our family members and the church sign was in the background. I knew I was going to make picture cards.

I used WRMK Family Keepsakes paper that has crosses on them. I added a little stickles to make the crosses pop. On the inside I used my spellbinders die and stamped Thank You, added a little ribbon and my card was done.

Next crop I will work on my sister's wedding album!

I'm finally back from Chicago after attending the Craft & Hobby Association (CHA) Trade show. It's been two years since I attended and it's nice to be able to see and touch the products. I really enjoy talking with the designers and the various staff members of the companies that I order from.

Today I will give you a brief overview of the show, but I will begin to individually go through the companies and what they are offering, what I liked, impressed me, did nothing for me, etc.

For those of you not familiar with CHA, it occurs twice a year, Jan & July, where the manufactures reveal their new products. Typically the summer show features back to school, fall, halloween, Christmas and winter lines. Also showing are the electronic and manually die cut companies, stamping, adhesives, etc. companies. There other craft vendors that attend also, but I usually do not spend much time on their booths because I really do not carry much of those items.

The main difference I found between 2011 and 2009 was the size of the show. As you all know, the economy has hit the craft industry and it was reflected at CHA. However, I must say that both the manufactures that were there and the buyers (store owners like me) were happy to be there and had a great opportunity to interact. I was able to actually sit down and have conversations with some of the staff members of several companies. This is the major advantage of the show being smaller.

I came home with 3 bags of catalogs! I place several orders and will be going through the catalogs and placing orders in the near future.

My overall favorite booth, for their displays, customer service, excitement and products was. . . . . .

For those of you who know me, you know I am not a fan of flying (I drove to Chicago - only 10 hours from Buffalo!) Well, we stayed with my sister, who is a flight attendant and her fiance, who is a pilot. Alicia, my daughter, was so excited to be able to go up in his plane that somehow, God only knows how, they convinced me to go for a ride! Here is the proof

I can cross this off my bucket list- ha ha I didn't even know it was on it!

Wow, I can't believe July is already ending. It's been a fast month.

My copic class early in July gave me the the tools I need to purchase the right markers and how to teach using them. Practice will be the key but once you master that, these markers are awesome. Time to develop and schedule classes

Summer Hours begin today. Over the years I have noticed that our scrappers, stampers and card makers like to enjoy our warm weather and take vacation out of the area.

Therefore, this year I have changed my summer hours:
Thursday & Friday 11:30 am - 6:30 pm

Even though the days are limited, if you need to shop at a different time, I am happy to set an appointment time with you and open up. Please email or call me to set up an appointment.

Also, I have scheduled several crops during the summer, which the store will be open during crops. The next crop is Friday, July 1 from 11am-11pm.

Ok, I really never thought of myself as a ribbon hoarder, but I just found out I am :)

I've been working on this flap book for an upcoming class for the last four days (sneak preview soon) and am at the point where I'm doing the embellishments and need ribbons.

I started looking at my ribbon, didn't find anything that was just right. I know I have more ribbon in "various other places!"

The hunting and gathering begin . . .

I decided to get a HUGE box and put all the ribbon rolls and a shoebox full of "extra pieces" into it. The box is full and I still have "other spots" to gather from!

Do you think I could find just what I was looking for??? Of course not!

P.S. I really should be doing my Christmas cards instead of this, but I can't stop :)

The Best Liquid Glue Around

I must confess that I am not (or should I say was not) a big fan of liquid glue. However, since I discovered Beacon's 3 in 1 glue I am in love!

It has a super hold, does not dry too quickly so there is some time to move around if needed. It has a strong hold, dries clear and fast! I had some Christmas ornaments and other decorations that were in need of repair and this glue did an excellent job.

On the papercrafting side, the hold is strong, especially for canvas, metal, chipboard, buttons and dries clear.

I only have one bottle left in the store, but have more on order - You have got to try this glue.

Say No to Candles

Please, do not burn candles. This past week in Binghamton a grandfather, father and 4 year old girl died in a house fire blamed on unattended candles & no smoke detectors. Such a tragedy.

I WAS a huge candle person, I always had at least one lit and quite often I would light candles in several rooms - rooms that I was not even in.

That was then, this is now. . .
Some of you may already know this, but last December I forgot to blow out a candle before going to bed and around 5 am my smoke detector went off. When my husband went downstairs the candle holder was in flames, the counter top was burned and there the whole downstairs was a cloud of black haze which settled into a fine black soot. After a while of breathing I could feel that that soot was in my throat and in my nose.

I shutter to think how close we were to having our home on fire! I no longer will light any candles - it just isn't worth it. I still have some anxiety over what happened, especially when I wake at night.

I know some of those I emailed and showed the candle holder to still use candles - please stop. A fire could start so quickly and trust me you do not want to go there!

December Aready!

I can't believe it's December already! Starting to stress - the store is decorated but not a home yet. And this weekend I have to travel again for a family Christmas Party. As much as I am not looking forward to driving to snowy Buffalo for the second weekend in a row, I will be able to see my family on my Dad's side and especially my Aunt who just had a mild heart attack.

Some changes to the store hours are:

I will be open on the Following Sunday's from Noon - 4 pm

Deer in the headlights Again!

Boy, do I really have this look down pat! Let me explain - -

A few years ago the Press & Sun come to the store on Front Street and did a wonderful newspaper article and video on cardmaking. It was a full page layout in the newspaper and in one of their supplements. They took a picture of me holding one of the cards and the look on my face is priceless - deer in the headlights look.

Fast forward to last week. One afternoon this gentleman walks into the store with a camera around his neck. He was from the Press & Sun and is doing an article about the closed churches in the area. He was a very nice man who was interested in the history of St. Rita's, our rebirth of it and he also took some great pictures of the stained glass windows. Unfortunately I was in the picture with my great deer in the headlights look! It seems I always have a puzzled/lost look on my face in every picture.

So look for the article, which he said should run sometime between now and the end of the year!

Life's A Beach ....

Love the Ocean! Having spent a week at the ocean I know that I could get used to living like that very easily. I also know that I will never be a fisherman on the high seas (not a pretty story :( and I'm afraid I will have to remove taking a cruise from my bucket list!

Today is the fist day back from vacation. It's been many, many years since we have taken a vacation and our first beach vacation. It's so hard getting back into "real life" now. I'm wanting to be in my sand chair right in the ocean! Ahhhh -

ohhhh - back to reality - Scrapbook Connection is now open regular hours.

Before leaving for vacation new summer/beach/fish, etc stickers and papers arrived.
